Hyderabad City Police invoked PD Act against habitual offender Mir Akbar Ali

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad City Police invoked the Preventive Detention Act against habitual offender Mir Akbar Ali, citing his repeated involvement in grave criminal activities and continued threat to public order, officials said on Thursday.

The action was taken on the orders of V. C. Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad City. Police said Mir Akbar Ali, 32, a resident of Ganga Nagar Nala in Yakuthpura and a DCM driver by profession, was a notorious rowdy sheeter with a long criminal history.

According to police records, the accused was involved in 25 criminal cases, including offences such as murder, attempt to murder, robbery, and violations of the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. Officials said this was the third instance of the PD Act being invoked against him, as he had been detained twice earlier under the same law.

PD Act invoked after fresh cases by Rein Bazar police

Police said the Rein Bazar police recently booked Mir Akbar Ali in multiple fresh cases, prompting the latest preventive detention. These included Crime No. 21/2025 registered under Sections 118(1), 352 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and Crime No. 25/2025 under the NDPS Act.

Another case, Crime No. 173/2025, was registered under Sections 324(4), 329(4) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with Section 25(1) of the Indian Arms Act. Police said his continued criminal conduct posed a serious risk to public safety.

Following the execution of the detention orders, the accused was shifted to Chanchalguda Central Prison. Hyderabad City Police said they remained committed to taking stringent action against habitual offenders and elements that disrupt peace and order in the city.
