Gurukul hostel crisis sparks row as Harish Rao faults congress rule

Hyderabad: The hospitalization of three students after rat bites in Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Gurukul Hostel, Alampur, has intensified the political clash between the BRS and the ruling Congress in Telangana.

BRS MLA T. Harish Rao used the incident to allege systemic negligence in Gurukul Hostels. He said students continued to suffer from unsafe conditions, including rat and dog bites, snake attacks, and electric shocks, despite repeated assurances from the government.

Harish Rao questions Congress over Gurukul Hostel assurances

According to Harish Rao, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s promises to personally monitor Gurukul Hostels and enforce strict action against lapses had not translated into action. He said the Congress administration was allowing dangerous conditions to persist.

The MLA urged a high-level review of Gurukul Hostel management and called for a special state-wide drive to address food safety, infrastructure, and student welfare. The episode highlights continuing tension between opposition and government over public services in Telangana.
