Ganja menace resurfaces in Old City as Bandlaguda police seize 2 kg

Hyderabad: The ganja menace resurfaced in the Old City after Bandlaguda Police seized 2 kg of the banned narcotic during intensive vehicle checks. Police arrested one person for illegal possession.

Police conducted the checks on the directions of the Hyderabad Police Commissioner. Officers launched the drive amid growing concerns over the open sale of ganja in several Old City localities. Officials warned that unchecked drug circulation often triggers violent crimes and law-and-order problems.

During the operation, Bandlaguda police intercepted two suspicious men. Officers identified them as Mohammed Imran and Munawar. After questioning Imran, police recovered nearly 2 kg of ganja from his possession.

Investigators said Imran admitted that he sourced the contraband from a supplier known as Happy Bhai in Odisha. Police clarified that Munawar acted only as a customer and had no role in drug trafficking.

Ganja menace in Old City linked to interstate supply routes

Police investigations revealed that traffickers transport ganja mainly from Odisha and Uttar Pradesh. Migrant networks, aided by local intermediaries, distribute the drug in parts of Hyderabad’s Old City.

Police registered a case and produced the accused before a court. The court later remanded him to judicial custody. Officials said they would intensify efforts to dismantle drug networks in the Old City.

Police also warned that they would continue strict enforcement. They said they would take severe action against anyone involved in selling or distributing ganja.
