Fog at Shamshabad Airport triggers DGCA fog season warnings

Hyderabad: Dense fog at Shamshabad Airport disrupted air traffic on Saturday as temperatures across Telangana dropped to single digits, forcing aviation authorities to issue fog season warnings.

Officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport said visibility fell sharply due to thick fog, which affected both arrivals and departures. As a result, airport authorities regulated flight movements during the early morning hours.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation issued fog season warnings for the airport and said the advisory would remain in force until February 10. Officials said the alert aimed to improve pilot preparedness and ensure passenger safety during low-visibility conditions.

Fog also affected several national highways across Telangana. The reduced visibility slowed traffic and caused long queues on some stretches. Authorities urged motorists to drive cautiously during early hours.

Shamshabad Airport fog forces diversion of 18 flights

Airport sources said dense fog forced the diversion of at least 18 domestic and international flights to alternate airports. Air traffic controllers delayed several other flights to maintain safety standards.

Officials said teams were closely monitoring weather conditions. They advised passengers to check flight schedules with airlines before heading to the airport, as the Shamshabad Airport fog was likely to continue during the winter period.
