Hyderabad: The Deakin Aikam MoU was signed to advance applied artificial intelligence, skilling, and research collaboration in Telangana.
Deakin University, Australia, and Aikam, the Telangana government’s AI innovation hub, formalised the partnership at the State Secretariat. The agreement aims to strengthen global collaboration in emerging technologies and workforce development.
The MoU was exchanged between Professor Iain Martin, Vice-Chancellor of Deakin University, and Phani Nagarjuna, CEO of Aikam, in the presence of senior officials. Special Secretary Bhavesh Mishra said the partnership aligns with Telangana’s vision to become a global leader in frontier technologies.
He stated that the collaboration will focus on translating advanced research into practical applications across governance and industry. The initiative also aims to build a future-ready innovation ecosystem based on responsible and inclusive AI.
Deakin Aikam MoU drives applied AI ecosystem
Under the agreement, both institutions will work on AI skilling, research, and industry engagement. The partnership includes executive education, curriculum development, and workforce training to create a competitive AI talent pool.
It also promotes joint research, academic exchange, and innovation in high-impact sectors. In addition, the MoU supports startup development, industry partnerships, and commercialisation pathways.
A key outcome of the collaboration is the establishment of the Aikam–Deakin Hub for Research in Intelligent Technology and Innovation (Aikam–DHRITI). This centre will function as a joint platform to deliver scalable AI solutions.
Phani Nagarjuna said the partnership will integrate research, industry, and skilling to position Telangana as a global AI hub. Professor Iain Martin said the collaboration will explore AI applications for governance and strengthen India–Australia engagement.
Officials said the initiative combines Deakin’s global expertise with Telangana’s innovation ecosystem to drive real-world impact and support data-driven governance.
