Hyderabad: Congress leader MA Faheem on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Bharat Rashtra Samithi. He accused the party of insulting the Constitution by staging a political drama at its party office. Faheem said the act directly targeted constitutional authorities, including the Speaker. He added that such actions weakened democratic values.
Concern Over Democratic Norms
Faheem said the incident reflected a serious disregard for constitutional institutions. He stressed that elected representatives must act with dignity and restraint. According to him, actions involving constitutional offices demand responsibility. He said the alleged drama crossed ethical limits. He also warned that such behaviour sent a negative message to the public.
Questions on Moral Authority
Questioning BRS’s moral standing, Faheem referred to leaders who joined the party after winning elections elsewhere. He said BRS rewarded such leaders with powerful positions. According to him, this practice exposed double standards. He argued that the party applied principles only when it suited political interests.
Dalit Issues and Unfulfilled Promises
Speaking on Dalit concerns, Faheem alleged that BRS repeatedly failed to honour its promises. He said the party spoke about social justice but failed in implementation. He cited promises such as appointing a Dalit Chief Minister and distributing land. According to him, BRS did not fulfil these commitments. He added that disrespecting a Speaker from the Dalit community raised serious constitutional concerns.
Reference to Past Political Incidents
Faheem also recalled earlier incidents involving Congress leaders. He mentioned arrests and police action during past protests. He questioned why BRS leaders remained silent at that time. He said the party now spoke about morals only for political gain.
Congress to Decide Next Steps
Concluding his remarks, Faheem said the Indian National Congress would act after careful thought. He said the party leadership would hold internal discussions. Based on those talks, Congress would decide its future course of action. He described the issue as an attack on constitutional dignity.
