Hyderabad: The Special Crime Team of the CCS apprehended a 29-year-old man for illegal pistol possession. The team seized a country-made weapon during a joint operation with Hussainainalam police on December 31.
Police identified the accused as Amjad Khan, a resident of Khilwath in Hussainainalam. After returning from Saudi Arabia, he ran a business in the Charminar area. Acting on specific information, the CCS team detained him. During the operation, officers recovered a country-made 0.7 mm pistol and a OnePlus mobile phone.
Investigators revealed that the accused purchased the weapon about ten months ago. He allegedly paid ₹80,000 to a supplier based in Madhya Pradesh through intermediaries. According to police, he kept the firearm to intimidate the public by displaying it.
Illegal pistol possession exposes supply network
Meanwhile, police identified the main supplier as Avinash alias Kallu from Madhya Pradesh. Another mediator, Amith from the BHEL area in Hyderabad, also played a role. However, both suspects remain absconding. Therefore, police teams have intensified efforts to trace and arrest them.
Inspector D. Bikshapathi of the Special Crime Team led the arrest along with his staff. The operation took place under the supervision of ACP G. Venkateswar Reddy. Hussainainalam police also coordinated closely during the action.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad City Police said they have tightened surveillance on anti-social elements across the city. Moreover, police urged individuals holding illegal or unlicensed firearms to surrender them at the nearest police station. Otherwise, they warned, strict legal action will follow.
