AP, Telangana water dispute committee to meet on January 30

Hyderabad: The committee formed to resolve the Andhra Pradesh–Telangana water dispute will hold its first meeting on January 30 at 3 pm. The meeting will take place at Seva Bhavan in New Delhi, according to an official notice.

The Project Appraisal Organisation of the Central Water Commission issued the notice. Officials said the panel will discuss key issues related to water sharing and project management between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during the meeting.

The agenda includes major inter-state water projects, including the Polavaram–Banakacharla (Nallamalasagar) link. The panel will also seek inputs from the Godavari River Management Board and the Krishna River Management Board on ongoing disputes and operational issues.

The Ministry of Jal Shakti constituted the 15-member expert committee on January 2. The ministry asked the panel to submit a detailed report within three months. Atul Jain, Chairman of the Central Water Commission, heads the committee.

Telangana nominated Adityanath Das, Rahul Bojja, Prashant Jeevan Patil, and Amjad Hussain as members. Andhra Pradesh nominated Sai Prasad, Venkateswara Rao, Narasimha Murthy, and the CEO of the Interstate Water Resources Department.

Central and technical members include Biswas, B P Pandey, National Water Development Agency Chief Engineer Das, and CWC Project Appraisal Organisation Chief Engineer Paithankar. Officials said the panel may induct more experts and senior engineers if required.

The Centre formed the committee after a meeting between the chief ministers of both states in Delhi on July 16 last year. C R Patil chaired the meeting. Later, the Centre sought nominations from both states. Andhra Pradesh submitted its list on December 15, followed by Telangana on December 23, which cleared the way for the panel’s formation.
