Hyderabad: Governor Jishnu Dev Verma on Friday said artificial intelligence cannot replace human knowledge, judgment, ethics, creativity, or compassion. He stressed that technology must always serve society.
AI must support, not replace, human values
The Governor spoke after inaugurating the sixth edition of the BITSAA Global Meet at the BITS Pilani Hyderabad Campus in Shamirpet. He said BITS Pilani consistently goes beyond classroom learning. According to him, the institution has shaped innovation and leadership across generations.
Meanwhile, Verma highlighted the rapid impact of artificial intelligence, data science, and automation. He said these technologies are transforming education systems worldwide. However, he cautioned against limiting education to job outcomes alone. Instead, he urged institutions to promote lifelong learning and adaptability.
Furthermore, the Governor said true education strengthens human values. He added that ethics and compassion must guide the use of technology. Without them, he said, progress remains incomplete.
Alumni role in nation-building
Turning to alumni engagement, Verma described alumni associations as the backbone of universities. He said alumni play a key role in mentoring students and supporting national self-reliance. Therefore, he urged former students to actively guide younger generations and contribute to India’s technological and social growth.
Several dignitaries attended the programme. These included Principal Secretary to the Governor Dana Kishore, Medical Collector Manu Chaudhary, BGM-2026 chairperson Anita Sakuru, BITS Group Vice-Chancellor Ramagopal Rao, investor Kanwal Rekhi, CEO Mayur Patnala, and other guests.
