Accused arrested in Vanasthalipuram brutal murder case

Hyderabad: Police arrested the accused in the Vanasthalipuram brutal murder case of a pregnant software employee and seized key evidence, including knives, a car and a mobile phone, officials said on Thursday.

According to the press note, the incident came to light on 18.02.2026 at 13:15 hours after Vudukula Srinath, 30, lodged a complaint with Vanasthalipuram Police Station. Srinath, a private employee and resident of KNR Meadows, Kappala Cheruvu, stated that he had married Sunitha, 30, a software employee, in 2025 and she was pregnant.

He told police that he had left for office in the morning while his wife and mother were at home. However, at around 12 pm, he received a call from his mother and rushed back. He found his wife lying in a pool of blood in the bathroom with severe stab injuries. Neighbours informed him that an unidentified person had entered the house around 11:30 am, bolted the main door from inside and attacked her.

Following the complaint, the Inspector and his team visited the crime scene, collected evidence and arrested Devarakonda Mahesh, 30, a private employee residing at Arun Hostel in Turkayamjal, Abdullapurmet. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime, police said.

Investigators revealed that Mahesh had married Sunitha in 2022. Later, disputes arose between them and she filed a harassment case against him and his family. After attending court hearings, the couple obtained a mutual divorce in 2024. Subsequently, she married Srinath in 2025.

Police said the accused bore a grudge against her, blaming her for his mother’s mental distress and subsequent death. He allegedly purchased knives, traced her residence and entered the house in her husband’s absence before attacking her. Due to severe bleeding injuries, she died on the spot.

Officers seized a brown Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max, a Swift Dzire car bearing registration TS 05 FJ 8936 and a bag containing knives from the accused.

The arrest was made under the supervision of Dr B. Anuradha, IPS, DCP, LB Nagar Zone, and P. Kasi Reddy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Vanasthalipuram Division. Inspector T. Mahesh carried out the investigation.
